These are a few of my favorite things. . . for the holidays!
Nothing gets me in the mood for the holidays like shopping! Getting out in the stores with the other holiday shoppers just makes it feel like Christmas. I don't shop online very much because I love the crowds, music and seeing all the holiday decor in the stores.
One of my favorite places to shop is. . . World Market.
They have a little bit of everything and it's all so unique. You won't see the same old things that are in all the other stores (Target, Walmart, Macys, etc.)
To brighten up your home I've donated a $25 gift ecard to the prize raffle! Enjoy!
I first fell in love with Patricia Polacco books when the story The Keeping Quilt was in our student reading text. I soon discovered that she has so many books about the holidays. Her family roots has led her to write stories about Christmas, Epiphany, and Hanukkah. These books are a wonderful way to share holiday traditions from several cultures.
My very favorite is Uncle Vova's Tree. It's the story about a family who gathers for Epiphany, in early January. In the story the family enjoys a special dinner and decorates a tree in the yard for the wild animals. It's very heartwarming and leads into a wonderful sharing of family traditions.
If you'd like to see other Patricia Polacco holiday books with craft activities check out my new Winter Bundle (described later in this post).
My favorite holiday tradition is . . . Christmas lights! I love looking at the lights and yard displays, but I hate doing them myself! Maybe that's why I love taking drives to look at other light displays.
The Desert Botanical Gardens in Phoenix has a wonderful event called Las Noches de las Luminarias. Along the paths they set up luminarias. It's beautiful. You can stroll through the gardens sipping warm drinks, listening to music and enjoying the crisp desert night air.
My favorite holiday product is . . . . Winter Bundle! I put this bundle together just for this blog hop and it has 4 of my favorite products. For one week, December 7 - 14 you can get this wonderful bundle for only $11. That's more than half off the original price for the individual units!
Snowy Winter Days has lots of fun activities for those cold snowy winter days ahead! The unit features the books Thomas' Snowsuit and Snowflake Bentley. There's also an original information text about polar bears, a poetry writing activity, plus activities with indoor snowballs and snowmen!
Snow Much Fun with Time will help your students tell time to the hour, half hour, five-minute and one-minute intervals. There are lots of practice pages, student reference pages and manipulative. The unit also includes the difficult skill of figuring elapsed time. Your students will have "Snow Much Fun" as they learn to tell time with these engaging pages.
Snowman Genre Writing Project. Do your students need to learn how to write different genres? This project is the perfect way to introduce students to six different genres:
- narrative (fantasy, snowman comes to life)
- functional (recipe for marshmallow snowman treat)
- persuasive (Friendly Letter, persuade teacher to allow snowman contest)
- poetry (diamante, comparing a snowman to a scarecrow)
- informative (Missing Snowman flyer)
- Informative (Nonfiction book report), including note cards from actual nonfiction book about the Abominable Snowman.
Holiday Reading with Patricia Polacco is by far my favorite winter unit. I've been in love with her books for years. In her holiday books she shares so many wonderful stories that tell about love, kindness, sharing and friendship. No holiday season is complete with reading these books with your students.
